Lily Collins Made Me Do It: Lancome Haul & First Impressions

Ever since I found out Lancome had taken Lily Collins on as its new spokesmodel, I've been patiently awaiting the release of their spring collection. The campaign images have been taunting me since the end of December, and I might as well have worked at the Lancome counter for how many times I've visited it in the past months, obsessively checking for the new display. So of course, the one day I actually had no intention of splurging on makeup was the day the collection actually became available.

I didn't buy everything, as tempting as it was. I tried to restrict myself to the big items, but of course, a lipstick managed to find its way into my bag as did a glitzy eyeshadow. I believe there were quite a few nail varnishes available, as well as a couple of eyeliners and lip glosses. As far as I know, the lip products promoted with the collection are permanent, so you can purchase them whenever you please.

Also, can we just talk about how adorable the packaging of the compacts is? I just love being able to pull these out of my makeup bag! I haven't had a chance to properly play around with the eyeshadow palette and illuminating blush yet, but I have been wearing the lipstick and single shadow quite often over the past week or so. Anyways, here are a bunch of pretty pictures along with my initial thoughts on the products!

Blush highlighter in Rose Ballerine ($72)- This was the one product I knew without a doubt I was going to purchase. It comes with a pretty hefty price tag, but I think it was worth the splurge! It's a lovely pastel pink with a subtle sheen, which may not be overly unique, but I fell in love with the way this applied on the cheeks.

I had the lady at the counter try this on me, and on my light medium skin tone, it gave a nice flush. The powder is very finely milled, so it's not going to appear chalky or cling to any dry patches on the skin. The shimmer is enough to give a healthy glow, while avoiding looking like a disco ball. While the colour pay off is quite sheer, it is definitely buildable if you're going for a more noticeable look.

And let's not forget to mention how stunning the powder itself looks. The embossed rose actually has a decent amount of depth to it, so you're not going to lose the design for a good while.

Doll Eyes palette in Rose Ballerine ($85)- This palette wasn't originally on my buy list because I don't tend to wear cooler tones or purples on my eyes, but I tried it out before I made my purchase and I fell in love with it. All five shades have at least some degree of shimmer, but two seem to lean more towards a satin finish.

All the shadows have decent pigmentation and are buttery to the touch. The ones with more glitter have less colour to them, so I would recommend applying them with a pressing motion over a sticky base or over a base colour just to add a little sparkle. The taupe and violet have the best pigmentation of the bunch, however, they're not overly unique colours. So while I personally don't own any similar shades, I'm sure you could find cheaper alternatives.

Dazzling eyeshadow in Topaz Doree ($45)- The texture of this eyeshadow very interesting, as it's neither a powder or a cream. I'd say it classifies as a happy medium, as it has an almost spongy texture that will spring back after you've pressed your brush or finger into the pot.

Topaz Doree is a warm peach with finely milled golden shimmer. Again, I'd recommend this product more for the glitz than its pigmentation. The golden tones become more obvious when layered over a sticky primer or over a like-toned base shadow. I didn't have any issues with fall out when I used this, which is a major plus in my books.

Rouge in Love lipstick in Corail in Love [322M] ($45)- I've wanted to try these lipsticks for the longest time, so I couldn't resist picking this one up as an everyday colour. As far as being coral, I definitely think this one has a lot of pink in it as well, so definitely check it out if you're not a fan of the orangey tones. I think it's a shade that would look great on a tan as it has quite warm tones to it as well.

I have been wearing this lipstick as my everyday colour since I purchased it, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the wear. I've had a decent four to five hours before I've felt the need to reapply. It fades evenly and I didn't notice it sinking into any of my lip lines. It's neither drying nor particularly hydrating, which is fine by me.

As a wrap up, my must have from Lancome's spring collection would be the highlighting blush. I think it would be a universally flattering shade because of the subtle sheen it provides. If you're looking for a little more glitz and glitter in your life, then I'd recommend picking up the eyeshadows.
